Notholca bipalium O.F. Müller 1786
Notholca bipalium, a halophile rotifer, swimming, (dorso-) ventral view; typical traits are the very unconspicuous lateral appendages (arrowheads). According to KOSTE this species is larger (181µm) than N. striata; the latter one occurs in salt waters of salinity up to 1,5%, whereas Notholca bipalium occurs in salt waterof salinity up to 3,5%. Notholca bipalium, specimen is more compressed by the coverslide, so that the head protrudes the lorica. (1). The appendages are better in focus.
